The city of Cold Lake is still in the process of recovering from a cyber-attack that disrupted several municipal systems on July 23. Two weeks after the attack, the city has made progress in restoring services, though some limitations remain.
Despite the cyber-attack, the city has remained open for services, with reduced capabilities. “It’s our priority to be here for our residents,” said CAO Kevin Nagoya. “Our doors have remained open.”
Key systems, such as the city’s phone lines and most business software, have been successfully reinstated, and local computers are back online. However, certain online services, including Citizen Self-Service and live webcams of the marina and beach, remain offline as security monitoring of the city’s servers and IT systems continues during the recovery phase.
Residents are still able to pay bills online through their banks or by visiting City Hall in person, where payments can be made by cash, cheque, or credit through the third-party service OptionPay.
Several facilities are currently operating with limited payment options. The Energy Centre and FCSS both accept cash or cheques, while the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club allows for cash, debit, or credit transactions. The Transfer Station and Marina are restricted to cash-only payments.
The city of Cold Lake expresses its gratitude to residents for their continued patience as the recovery efforts progress.
