In the early morning hours of April 13, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress at the Staples located in the Tri-City area.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspects had disabled the power to the building and cut a hole in the wall to gain access. The suspects fled the scene in a truck before police could apprehend them. An estimated $80,000 worth of computers, tablets, mobile devices, and other electronics were stolen during the heist.
Following the incident, the Cold Lake General Investigations Section (GIS) launched a thorough investigation. Between April 16, and April 18, officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the Staples break-in. The vehicle was spotted with several individuals handling computer boxes, prompting further police action.
Subsequent search warrants were executed on two vehicles and a resident in Cold Lake. During these searches, officers recovered most of the stolen property from the April 13 break and entered.
Police have charged Chance Dunne, a 39-year-old resident of Cold Lake, and Logan Murrell, a 28-year-old resident of Edmonton, with breaking and entering Staples in Cold Lake and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They were both remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on July 24.
