Cold Lake RCMP arrest suspect in break and enter incident

On July 1, the Cold Lake RCMP responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a residence in Cold Lake.

Upon arrival, officers found the suspect already detained by the homeowner, who did not know the suspect. Investigations revealed that the suspect had threatened the homeowner with an imitation firearm.

Leonard McGillis, 59, a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with multiple offences, including robbery with an offensive weapon, breaking and entering a residence, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and two counts of weapons possession contrary to order.

McGillis was also wanted on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace, remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear at the Cold Lake Alberta Court of Justice on July 10.
