Severe thunderstorm watch issued for the Lakeland region

Residents of the Lakeland region should brace themselves for severe weather as a storm system moves eastward, expected to arrive on the evening of Tuesday, June 11. Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the area, updated at 8:01 p.m.

The alert warns that “conditions are favorable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.”

The warning further emphasizes the potential severity of these storms, cautioning that they can produce tornadoes. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” the alert advises.

Environment Canada explains that severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.

Residents in the Lakeland region are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
