At its regular council meeting on May 28, the Cold Lake city council debated and approved the latest recommendations from the Community Grant Advisory Committee. Through the Community Recreation Art, Culture, and Heritage Investment Grant Policy (CRACH) funding streams, $40,300 was awarded to 11 local groups.
During the meeting, the council increased the recommended grant for the Cold Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce from $12,000 to $16,000 and reversed committee recommendations to deny applications from the Lakeland Lacross Association and the Lakeland District Soccer Association.
Mayor Craig Copeland expressed his support for the decision, stating, “We are lucky to have groups who are dedicated to bringing tournaments and community events to Cold Lake, and we are lucky to be in a position to help them with the important work that they do. These events keep our community busy and stimulate the local economy by encouraging visitors. Our community benefits greatly from their work, and the council was happy to assist where we could.”
