A man who had roots in the Lakeland has been found guilty in the death of a B.C. police officer. 67-year-old Oscar Arfmann was found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of Abbotsford constable John Davidson.
Arfmann had at one time lived near Ashmont and was said by those who knew him to have sold his house there in 2016. Davidson was shot in a shopping centre parking lot after responding to a complaint about a stolen vehicle. Mounties say they later caught up to Arfmann in that same car with what they say was the murder weapon used.
A psychiatric assessment is now underway. Should Arfmann be found fit, a court hearing next year will bring him a life sentence with no chance of parole for at least 25 years. That is the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder.
