Bonnyville Man Arrested after Two Women Injured by Impaired Driver

Bonnyville RCMP Detachment Media Release – Impaired Motor Vehicle Collision
On March 29th, 2015 at approximately 7:45 PM, the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment received a 911 call for service to the Fort Kent area for a collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians who were struck and laying in the ditch.  Police arrived on scene and observed the injured females in the ditch and the vehicle driver sitting on the ground.  The females, both residents of Fort Kent, AB, aged 32 and 42 years old, had been out for their nightly walk when they were struck by the vehicle.  The 42 year old female had provided first aid to the 32 year old female before authorities arrived on scene while watching the vehicle driver throw beer cans out of his vehicle.  The 42 year old female was transported to the Bonnyville Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released.  The 32 year old female was also transported to Bonnyville Hospital before being transported by STARS to Edmonton with serious injuries.  The 32 year old female has received one surgery and is in currently in stable condition pending more surgery.  The vehicle driver and lone occupant, a 44 year old male resident of Bonnyville, showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on scene for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm.  The driver was subsequently transported to the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath resulting in readings of almost 3 times the legal limit.  The driver faces charges of Impaired Operation of A Motor Vehicle Over .08 Causing Bodily Haerm, Impaired Operation Of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm and Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm and remains in police custody with his first court appearance in Bonnyville Provincial Court on April 7th, 2015
