Student Wanders Off Holy Cross School Property

Both parents and staff got a bit of a scare at Holy Cross Elementary in Cold Lake on the 18th when a five-year-old student wandered off school property.

The young girl had apparently missed her bus at the end of the day and decided to make her way home on foot without telling anybody. Fortunately her bus driver spotted her about 700 metres away on 50th avenue a short while later.

In response to the incident, the school has taken the initiative to teach students more about what to do if they miss the bus. The bus driver and school staff usually touch base to make sure all the students that are supposed to be on board are before the driver heads off. However, this particular student had not gone to school on the bus that morning which may have led to the oversight.

Holy Cross adds this is the first time something like this has occurred since the school opened nine years ago.
