Woman Arrested After Stealing Van, Evading Arrest

St.Paul RCMP have arrested a 30-year-old woman who stole a van right from under the owner’s nose while they were paying for gas.

The initial incident took place at a gas station in Waskatneau, with the suspect simply driving off while the owner was in the store. Police cruised around looking for the van and eventually spotted it near Highway 28. The driver didn’t pull over and police began a chase, but called it off when they believed it was a danger to the public.

St. Paul RCMP later spotted it again themselves, this time on the highway and another chase ensued. Police used a spike belt, damaging two of the tires. Members from the Elk Point and Bonnyville RCMP set up a road block at the intersection of Highway 28 and Highway 41 when the thief rammed into one of the parked cruisers.

Police dogs were on scene and assisted with the removal of the lone suspect driver. The female suspect suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene and taken into custody. No one else was injured.

Courtney Faye Dillon from Onion Lake, Saskatchewan was charged with:

· Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
· Operation of a motor vehicle while pursued by police
· Driving while Disqualified/prohibited
· Theft of van
· Mischief – causing danger to life

Dillon did not speak to bail during a hearing and was remanded into custody. She will appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Feb. 23, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.

As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.
