MD Council has voted against granting a road allowance to a property owner after several letters against the proposal were sent to council.
The owner wanted exclusive access to the stretch of Range Road 480 to allow their cattle to graze across the road allowance. One resident said closing the allowance would prevent him from accessing his fence line and another said he used the road to haul heavy equipment.
A third letter written to council seemed to indicate that someone was treating the road allowance as their private property anyhow. The writer claimed that they were stopped and told they couldn’t drive on the road by a man who was renting a property by the road on two occasions. The renter said there was a “No Trespassing” sign and he didn’t like people driving by the house. However, he didn’t own the allowance.
The MD did an inspection of the area and indicated there was a locked gate on the road, which nobody in the area had the right to do. The motion was defeated handily.
