Lac La Biche Takes Financial Blow From Fort Mac Evacuations

After taking a very unexpected hit housing evacuees from the Fort McMurray fire, the county of Lac La Biche has had to retroactively increase its operating budget for by $1,450,000 dollars.

The increase covers all expenses related to the incident with the exception of non-overtime salaries attributed to the evacuation activities.

While the County is applying for financial assistance through the Disaster Recovery Program, Council has passed a motion directing Administration to explore ways they might be able to recover the expenses outside of that.
