Cold Lake Man Arrested After 25-Day Crime Spree

26-year-old Douglas James Murray from Cold Lake is facing a total of 41 charges for a crime spree around Bonnyville and Cold Lake dating back to Christmas.

Police allege that Murray has been very prolific over the past few months, here’s a timeline of crimes police have associated him with.

December 25th: Bonnyville RCMP respond to heated argument at a house around 11 PM. Victim says the other person pointed a gun at them during the dispute and fled before police got there. Officers also find stolen vehicle from Grande Prairie. Warrant for Douglas James Murray issued.

January 3rd: Gas and dash reported in Cold Lake. Police determine vehicle used in the theft was stolen from the cold Lake area a few days before.

January 4th: Shoplifting from liquor store in Bonnyville reported. Same vehicle used as the gas and dash.

January 5th: Fort Kent business reports overnight break and enter. Gate damaged and fuel stolen from compound.

January 18th: Cold Lake RCMP respond to sighting of stolen vehicle from the January 3rd-5th crimes on a property in the city. When police enter the driveway the suspect jumps into stolen vehicle and reams into police car, getting away. Vehicle is recovered a short while later, abandoned. No injuries in the incident.

January 20th: Cold Lake RCMP respond to another stolen vehicle report. Vehicle is located but evades police. Police catch up with it a short while later when it falls into a ditch. Murray is arrested along with a female youth without incident.

Murray now finds a whopping 41 charges on his plate, including:

– Assault of a police officer

– Pointing a firearm

– Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

– Operate motor vehicle while being pursued by police

– Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle

– Mischief under $5000

– Obstruction of a police officer

– Break and Enter with intent

– Theft over $5000

– Possession of cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

– Fail to comply with a probation order

– Fail to comply with recognizance

He appeared in Bonnyville Provincial court earlier today on 19 charges.

Murray is also set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court tomorrow at 10 AM via CCTV in relation to 22 charges.

The female youth has been charged with Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and outstanding warrants for Theft under $5000 and Fail to Appear (X2). The youth was remanded into custody and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, her name cannot be published.
