A revamped A.G Ross Arena and a new entrance for the Lac La Biche County Pool are among 14 projects in northern Alberta to receive government funding as part of the Canadian Government’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
In total the region is getting 1.7 million dollars in federal funding out 150 million budgeted for Canada 150 projects nationwide. Of that money, the Elk Point Ag Society is getting $54,235 for arena upgrades and Portage College will be receiving a chèque for $72,100 to renovate the entrance for the pool.
The St. Paul & District Arts Foundation will also be getting some money from the Canada 150 Fund, which is designated to be spent on celebrations for the big anniversary. The feds have awarded them $24,000.
“The Government of Canada recognizes that cultural and recreational activities bring communities together and contributes to our overall health and well-being. The renewed facilities and programs not only respond to the demand for community infrastructure improvements, but also provide us an opportunity to celebrate the people of this great country,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi in a release.
Some other nearby projects to receive funding include arena renovations in Two Hills and improvements to the arena in the Smoky Lake Complex.
