Red Rooster Robbery Leads to Arrest

An Edmonton man has been arrested regarding a robbery of the Red Rooster Convenience store in Bonnyville on Friday.

Around 9:15 at night a lone man walked into the store armed with a gun and wearing gloves. In the robbery took some cigarettes and lottery tickets and fled in a blue vehicle. It appears he was only able to escape the long arm of the law for about two hours though, as Smoky Lake RCMP pulled him over for impaired driving that same night. At this point the police also discovered that the man’s gun was a fake.

54 year old Jean Marc Viau of Edmonton is charged with 5 counts including Robbery with a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Using an Imitation Firearm in the commission of an Indictable Offence, Utter a Death Threat and Driving while Disqualified. He will appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on January 17th for these matters. Viau is further charged by Smoky Lake RCMP with Impaired Driving, Failing to Provide a Breath Sample and Driving while Disqualified and is due to appear in Court for those matters on January 19th.
