J.A Williams Recieves Silver LEED Certification

Now in its third school year, J.A Williams High School in Lac La Biche has been awarded with a silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.

The certification system is used to designate environmentally-friendly building design in over 150 countries around the world. J.A Williams has several features with this principle in mind. Instead of water fountains, the school features water bottle filling stations, encouraging students and staff to bring their own bottle in. In its’ first year, a counter over the station read that over 40,000 bottles were diverted from landfills in its first year alone. The school also has an abundance of windows to bring in as much natural light as possible.
