Evacuee Donation Centre Wrapping Up in Two Weeks

As Fort McMurray residents slowly begin the move back home, the evacuee Donation Centre at the Bonnyville Baptist Church has set a closing date for the facility – Friday, June 24th.

Pastor Ben Smith says the church is still offering help to those who have needs, as it always does. “This will simply be a transition to our regular ministry.”

The church Donation Centre, located at 4111-43 Avenue, will continue to operate next week, Sunday, June 12 to Friday, 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the subsequent week the hours will be modified again.

Smith said as people’s needs have changed, the church’s offerings change as well. Donation Centre organizers have started to pack up some of the non-consumable items, such as clothing and toys, as there is a low demand for these items. The Centre will continue to do its best to meet people’s needs.

“In light of our changing role, we have lots still to do in loading shelves, packing boxes, helping people get groceries, please come by the church, or text/call 780 812 9329 if you have questions or would like to help.”

Smith thanks everyone in the Bonnyville area for their incredible support over the past weeks. “Thank you all for your support, sacrifice, and the incredible difference you’ve made in the lives of so many people.”
