Update on Evacuee Situation in St. Paul

Nearly four hundred evacuees have registered in the town of St. Paul’s reception center since it was opened two days ago.

“We do have quite a few who are staying in town, just not at our reception centre at this time,” says Director of Emergency Management Rob Duffy. More are expected to come through as thousands of  evacuees stuck in camps north of Fort McMurray are flown out. Exactly how many will stop in St. Paul is unknown.

Capacity is not an issue at this point. “We have people staying in hotels. The college is opening their dorms, we have access to a three hundred man camp still and we still have access at our reception centre to hold four hundred people here as well.”

About a hundred volunteers have signed up to pitch in however they can.
