Slow Fundraising Forces St. Paul Animal Shelter to Push Back Expansion Plans

The St. Paul animal shelter will have to push its expansion further down the trail as fundraising continues to be an uphill struggle.

Manager Charlene Whiskeyjack says the shelter already had $120,000 out of a $250,000 goal raised before the campaign seriously got underway, but they’ve only been able to get $2,000 since then. The shelter’s Gofundme page has only raised $200 in two months.

Whiskeyjack suspects the struggling economy and the timing of the when the fundraising began might be factors. “It was a bit of a slow time to start too, because of the economy and because it was after Christmas. Hopefully now that all the big spending is over, people will donate.”

The shelter had hoped to break ground this spring, but that’s looking very unlikely. It appears things will have to wait a full year until next spring.
