Portage College in Lac La Biche to Host North East Regionals Skills Canada Competition

Portage College’s Lac La Biche campus will be hosting hundreds of high school students from Alberta’s northeast. They’ll be competing to be the best in their trade at the North East Regional Skills Canada Competition on March 24th.

Students from the Lakeland and other nearby regions will face off in eight different categories, Baking, Culinary Arts, TV & Video Production, Cabinet Making, Junior & Intermediate Hairstyling, welding and carpentry. The students who score the highest with the judges will move on to the provincials in Edmonton from May 14th to 15th.

The competition aims to encourage students to further their skills in their trade of choice. The competition’s website says that “By taking their skills out of the traditional classroom setting, students gain an appreciation for where their skills can take them, and are encouraged to reach for their personal best.”
