A Jamboree at the Cold Lake Seniors’ Centre took an unexpectedly violent turn on Sunday when an extremely aggressive man crashed the party.
Police say a 41-year-old man walked into the Jamboree, went to the front and grabbed a microphone out of somebody’s hand. The centre called the RCMP to remove him, but upon being detained, the man put up a prolonged and violent struggle. Although any drug use has not been confirmed as of yet, RCMP say the man resisted with a level of strength consistent with intoxication under certain drugs. Before it was over the Centre’s lobby was covered in the suspect’s blood and a large hole was left in the gyprock. RCMP later returned with some Peace Officers to help clean up the mess. A couple of officers checked themselves into the hospital for minor injuries, but returned to duty quickly. The suspect was taken to hospital as well but has been taken back to custody.
41-year-old Darcey David MacDonald of Cold Lake has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, two counts of resisting arrest, as well as overcoming resistance by choking to commit an indictable offence. He was remanded into custody and will next appear at Cold Lake Provincial Court on Wednesday, March 9th.
