St. Paul RCMP is encouraging local businesses to enhance their security using low-cost methods that can improve safety for both staff and customers.
With many small businesses facing financial pressures, officers say practical, affordable upgrades can go a long way to preventing crime.
Tips include installing interior security mirrors to improve sightline and reduce blind spots, limiting window displays or posters that block visibility, and using security film on glass surfaces to delay break-ins. Other tips include adding full-length pry guards on doors, using solar powered LED lighting to reduce dark hiding spots, and selecting disc locks for outdoor storage.
Security cameras are recommended, though RCMP advise researching models suitable for local conditions and understanding subscription needs for video storage. Businesses are also encouraged to trim trees and bushes to maintain clear visibility and consider perimeter alarms to monitor key access points.
“Our local businesses are the heart of our communities; to promote business safety is critical,” said Staff Sergeant Dennis Silliker. “St. Paul Detachment is committed to supporting our local business. We want to facilitate clear communication and encourage practices that promote safe businesses and safe communities.”
