RCMP are investigating the “suspicious deaths” of two individuals following a structure fire in Elizabeth Métis Settlement on May 21.
Cold Lake RCMP were called to the scene on Township Road 610, where emergency crews found a home engulfed in flames.
“Upon arrival, emergency responders were able to remove one resident from the home, however they were deceased. Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze however the home suffered extensive damage,” according to information from RCMP.
A further search of the residence uncovered the remains of a second person. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken over the investigation.
Both sets of remains have been taken to the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, to confirm their identities.
