Stolen truck chase in Bonnyville ends with arrest and two dogs rescued safely

A man is in custody and facing multiple charges after a truck was stolen in Bonnyville with two dogs inside, leading to a multi-detachment police pursuit.

On May 11 just before noon, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a report of a stolen truck from a parking lot on Eastpoint Way. “The truck was later spotted by a Cold Lake RCMP member near the Elizabeth Metis Settlement and neighbouring Detachments moved in to assist,” reads the RCMP release adding that the vehicle continued on to Highway 897 and refused to pull over for police. “A successful spike belt was deployed by an Elk Point RCMP member bringing the vehicle to an eventual stop in a nearby field.”

Once the vehicle stopped a Bonnyville RCMP member arrested the driver, who was identified as 21-year-old Myron Moyah of Fishing Lake. “He was found to be on a Canada-wide Warrant issued by the Parole Board of Canada,” reads the statement.

Moyah was charged with possession of property over $5,000, flight from police, driving while unauthorized, driving an uninsured vehicle and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded in custody following a Justice of the Peace and is scheduled to appear in court on May 20.

Before police located him, Moyah let the dogs out at a local construction site and they were safely recovered and returned to their owner unharmed.

“This was an excellent example of neighbouring RCMP Detachments working together to ‘get their man’.”
