The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) has issued a fire ban for the M.D. of Bonnyville Beach and Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon in an effort to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in the region.
The ban includes a prohibition on recreational off-highway vehicle use on all public lands and bans open fires in campgrounds, backcountry areas, and random camping sites, as well as backyard fire pits and burn barrels on both public and private land. Charcoal briquettes, pellet smokers, turkey fryers, tiki torches, and fireworks are also not permitted under the ban.
“We expect this fire advisory to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in Alberta, while allowing Albertans to enjoy outdoor activities as much as possible,” stated the BRFA in the announcement.”
Despite the restrictions, some equipment is still allowed, including CSA or UL certified portable propane fire pits, propane or gas stoves and barbecues that are CSA approved or UL certified and are designed for cooking or heating. Catalytic and infrared-style heaters, and fire contained in industrial settings as approved by a forest officer.
