Wildfire near Highway 660 now being held after quick response

A wildfire near Highway 660 and north of Evergreen Estates is now being held, following a quick and coordinated effort from local fire crews, provincial agencies and supporting contractors.

Although the fire is being held, crews will remain on the scene to monitor and extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Firefighters from six Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority stations, worked alongside Alberta Forestry, local contractors, RCMP, MD of Bonnyville CPOs, and local residents to contain the blaze.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated crews from: BRFA Glendon Station 3, Iron River Station 4, Bonnyville Station 5, La Corey Station 6, Fort Kent Station 7, and Cherry Grove Station 10, Alberta Forestry, the MD of Bonnyville, Bonnyville RCMP, MD of Bonnyville CPOs, Absolute Multicorp, Allpex Oilfield Services and Tri Rez Grader LP, Star Helicopter, Randy Batke, and the many residents who assisted and cooperated during the response,” reads the release from BRFA on Facebook. “Your support, hard work, and teamwork have been instrumental in preventing further spread of the fire.”

Crews will continue working through the night and into tomorrow to ensure that any remaining hotspots are extinguished and the area remains secure.

BRFA is asking the public to allow emergency personnel to safely complete their work and has thanked everyone involved.
