A fire advisory is now in effect for the M.D. of Bonnyville, Summer Villages of Bonnyville Beach and Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon.
On April 15, the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) released a fire advisory, prohibiting any burning without a permits, except for campfires, which are still allowed.
“We expect this fire advisory to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in Alberta, while allowing Albertans to enjoy outdoor activities as much as possible,” stated the BRFA.
The advisory took effect Tuesday. “All existing fire permits remain valid. No new fire permits will be issued for non-essential heavy fuel burning (windrows, machine-piled brush piles etc.). All other fire permits requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis,” stated the BRFA.
The BRFA are also reminding residents to double-check previous burn sites to ensure they are fully extinguished and to use caution during windy weather. Permitted fires include safe wood campfires on private and public land, including backyard fire pits, charcoal briquette barbecues, propane or natural gas-powered appliances, open flame oil devices, catalytic or infrared style heaters, and indoor wood fires.
Fireworks, exploding targets, and burning without a valid permits are prohibited.
