The Cold Lake RCMP have charged a woman in connection with an attempted child abduction that took place at a local restaurant earlier this week.
Around 4:42 p.m., on December 3, officers were called to a restaurant on 50th Street Cold Lake South following reports of an attempted abduction.
According to RCMP, a woman entered the establishment and approached a young child seated with their family. The suspect allegedly picked up the child from their chair and attempted to leave the restaurant. Family members quickly intervened, preventing the abduction and regaining custody of the child.
The suspect fled the scene but was located and arrested by RCMP officers during active parole in the area.
Lynette Scanie, a 30-year-old resident of Cold Lake, has been charged with abduction of a person under the age of 14.
Scanie was brought before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in court on December 5, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.
