Alberta RCMP traffic units apprehended wanted individual in stolen vehicle

In a coordinated effort on January 26 multiple RCMP traffic units and detachments, including Vermillion, St. Paul, and Bonnyville, were engaged in an impaired driving check stop on Highway 41 near Kehewin First Nations. Around 10 PM a vehicle identified as stolen approached the check stop, leading to the arrest of its occupants.

Following an investigation, 31-year-old Saddle Lake resident Darius John Brertton faced several charged, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, possession of methamphetamine, identity fraud, disobeying a court order, and two counts of obstructing a peach officer.

Brertton was presented before a justice of the peace and subsequently remanded into custody. His court appearance is scheduled for February 1, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.

“Alberta RCMP traffic is dedicated to bolstering public safety by curbing harmful behaviors on Alberta roadways through strategic partnerships, enforcement, education, and crime reduction initiatives,” stated Staff Sergeant Marcel Montgomery of the Alberta RCMP traffic St. Paul/Vermillion.
