The Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation in Bonnyville is set to receive $300,000 from the provincial government as part of a broader $16 million capital maintenance and renewal funding initiative.
Jason Nixon, Minister of Senior, Community and Social Services, highlighted the significance of the investment in keeping affordable housing available across the province. “This investment will support housing providers to keep affordable housing online across our province. We will continue to partner with these organizations to ensure we maintain and grow our affordable housing infrastructure across Alberta.”
The Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation in Bonnyville is one of the recipients of this funding, emphasizing the broader effort to address housing challenges. The foundation plans to use the $300,000 to undertake necessary repairs and maintenance projects, ensuring their housing units remain safe, updated, and affordable for years to come.
Gord Johnston, CEO of Civida, expressed gratitude for the investment, stating, “The funding represents a major step towards ensuring that thousands of families and individuals can continue to have access to safe, updated, affordable places to live.”
This injection of funds into capital maintenance and renewal aligns with the government’s commitment to creating caring communities. Jennifer McCue, President and CEO of Bethany Care Society, emphasized the importance of such funding for not-for-profit housing management bodies, stating that it helps provide infrastructure improvements for the tenants they serve.
In total, since 2019, the Alberta government has completed 2.808 affordable housing units and 350 new shelter spaces across 46 projects, totaling $517.8 million. The $16 million allocation will be distributed to various regions with Bonnyville’s Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation receiving $300,000.
