The final changes have been made to the Town of St. Paul’s Animal Control Bylaw.
The town has been adjusting the bylaw including taking feedback from the community for a while but has finally passed the newest version during its recent council meeting. The bylaw says no one can be the owner of a dog or cat over three months that is not licensed by the Town and the license needs to be updated every calendar year.
Anyone taking up residence within St. Paul who owns a dog or cat over three months will need to license the animal within 15 days of becoming the owner of said dog or cat.
The bylaw also says no one is allowed to bait, feed, or take any actions that may attract feral or wild animals on private or public property. An exception has been made for bird feeders.
The bylaw defines feral as an animal that is wild in nature and shows no sign of domestication. The bylaw does give Peace Officers the power to consider euthanizing an unclaimed animal after consulting with a veterinarian.
