Cold Lake region records lowest unemployment rate across the province in April

The unemployment rate in the region that includes Cold Lake saw a 0.3 per cent decrease from March to April and was the lowest recorded unemployment rate out of the seven economic regions across the province. According to Statistics Canada Eastern Alberta’s 4.1 per cent unemployment rate last month was also down compared to the 6.1 per cent rate reported during the same month in 2022.  

The  5.9 per cent unemployment rate for the province saw a 0.2 per cent month-over-month increase. That number, however, is down year over year compared to the same month last year which was 6.1 per cent. Across the country, the unemployment rate stayed steady at five per cent in April.  

The Lethbridge – Medicine Hat region had the second lowest unemployment rate last month at 5.7 per cent.
