The City of Cold Lake was presented with an Electric Vecicles Conversation feasibility study by ACTO during the March 21st council meeting.
The Government of Canada set a mandatory target saying all new light-duty cars and passenger trucks must be zero-emission by 2035. To prepare for the transition Cold Lake is looking at options like the feasibility study.
The study contained analysis for installing new infrastructure, reports of cost savings for proposed electrical vehicles and their efficiency, and logistics. According to the study, if followed, the city could save $84K in savings over seven years and if the city takes advantage of the recommended scope the Municipal Climate Change Action Center would cover $127K and the federal government would cover $5K.
The funding program is managed by MCCAC which offers funding options including a feasibility study and transitioning to an electric fleet.
No final choice was made at the meeting but the council said it will keep gathering information and discuss the options.
