The Alberta Government is asking everyone to join the 95 percent of the province who buckles up.
In March, Alberta Transportation and their partners are focusing on seatbelt use. More than 95 percent of Albertans are now wearing seatbelts, up from 69 percent in 1999. Between 2007 and 2012, this one change inside vehicles reduced unbelted fatalities by nearly 25 percent in the province.
Public Affairs Officer with Alberta Transportation Karen Sigurdson notes  studies show a significant number of young men between 18 and 24, in the prime of their lives, are not buckling up.
Sigurdsson adds the campaign, developed jointly by the province and the Alberta Occupant Restraint Program, is also emphasizing using vehicle booster seats for children under nine who weigh less than 80 lbs.
