Ecole Notre Dame’s “Hunger For the Homeless” a Huge Success

Following up on last week’s story, Ecole Notre Dame’s Hunger For the Homeless event was a massive success.

The school was able to collect enough food to fill up every seat on a school bus and drive it on over to the Bonnyville Friendship Centre’s food bank. The school also recieved around $250 in donations from the public the centre can use to buy other food items as well.

Students also spent Friday night at the school where they listened to speakers on the tolls of homelessness and got a small taste of it themselves through several interavtive activities. Teacher and organizer Siobahn Winterhalt says it was a great learning experience for the students.

Poverty and homelessness may be a very real concern for more lakelanders then ever. Recent numbers show that Alberta was the main driver for an increase in food bank usage in Canada last month.
