MD funding regional crime unit

The MD of Bonnyville says they’ll be backing a new crime reduction unit in the area. MD council has given the thumbs up to around $1.7 million dollars to be spent on three RCMP officers and one support staff member that will become a regional force serving Bonnyville, Glendon, Cold Lake and other areas.

The MD says over $400,000 of that commitment is already in place to get the ball rolling on the program. The province had announced earlier in November that initiatives were underway to try and fight rural crime.

The MD estimates it will take about six months before the unit is ready to start.
