The Pet Food Bank in Cold Lake is looking for support to begin the holiday season. The group, which is part of the Alberta Lost Pet Locator and Rescue Society, has put the call out to try and keep their shelves stocked.
Executive Director Debbie Marcellus says demand on the pet food bank in the recent months has grown.
“We are seeing a big increase in food going out. In the last couple of months even, not just now. Our output has tripled in the last two months.”
Donations are being accepted of cat and dog food as well as pet toys as holiday gifts for four-legged friends. Marcellus says she’s hoping for an influx in donations because supplies are running low.
“We’re just about empty. Our donations this last year have mainly come from the Rescue [Society] itself, from the other food banks. We have 10 others in Alberta.”
Donation bins are set up across the city including at Petland, Sobey’s and No Frills stores and the group is also accepting cash transfers. The Pet Food Bank itself is located at Baywood Road between Cold Lake South and North.
