The changes coming to Parent Link Centres across the province are being followed closely by governments in the Lakeland. Cold Lake sent out a release Wednesday saying they have been told grants and funding to current Parent Link organizations will stop and a new model will be rolled out next year.
The current operator of the Parent Link operation in Cold Lake is the city’s Cold Lake and District FCSS. The city says the Parent Link Centre had over 22,500 visits over the course of 2018.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for the work that our FCSS and Parent Link Centres do,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “Our community values these services and we will look at all opportunities available, understanding that the Government of Alberta may have new priorities for programs and services for children, youth and family.”
A new model is expected to be rolled out by the provincial government by March of 2020. The FCSS says they want more information on what a new way could look like before they put in a bid to host programs again.
