Contaminated water advisory issued for Kinosoo Beach on Cold Lake

***August 14th, 2015 Release from AHS***

Due to elevated levels of fecal coliforms currently present in the water of Cold Lake at Kinosoo Beach, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising the public not to swim or wade from Kinosoo Beach, effective immediately.

The public is also advised not to drink this contaminated water, as water-borne organisms, including fecal coliforms, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Elevated levels of fecal coliforms were detected via testing of the lake water, at this beach location. At current levels, skin, ear and eye infections can result from any contact with the water at Kinosoo Beach.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water at Kinosoo Beach.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
