Treaty 6 flag raising goes Friday in Bonnyville

Bonnyville will play host to a special gathering to kick off the long weekend. On Friday Bonnyville Town Hall will host a Treaty 6 flag raising ceremony featuring members of the neighbouring Kehewin Cree Nation and other Indigenous groups in the Lakeland.

The flag raising comes as the Canadian Indian Relay Racing Association begins their 2019 season at the Bonnyville Rodeo Grounds over the weekend. Races will run May 18th and 19th.

Bonnyville Mayor Gene Sobolewski and Kehewin Cree Nation Chief Vernon Watchmaker will make remarks during the flag raising. A free community barbecue is scheduled for after.

The ceremony starts at 10:30 AM.
