Grande Parlour gets MD bucks for upgrades

A popular venue in the Lakeland will be getting a helping hand. The Grande Parlour Theatre in Cold Lake will receive about $25,000 from the MD of Bonnyville. The money comes as the theatre looks to get some work done as part of an enhancement project. Theatre Producer Craig Konechny says his group has also seen $25,000 in funding from the City of Cold Lake

“We developed a project worth about $75,000 for the theatre. When [Cold Lake] approved it, we decided to go to the MD and see if they would be willing to match what the city did.”

The funding from the MD comes with the stipulation that it must be used for new equipment. Konechny says along with new hardware, working on the look and seating in the theatre will be completed.

“We’re looking to enhance the seating, the tables. Just line-of-sight. that’s the first thing that we want to tackle.”

Konechny says now the non-profit group will sit down and plan the renovations around the theatres show schedules. The Grande Parlour Theatre has been open since May of 2017.
