New Automated Garbage System in Bonnyville

New automated Garbage System introduced in Bonnyville. Many residents in Bonnyville have received their new green garbage bin this week as the town implements their new automated system.

Mayor Gene Sobolewski says back alley collection will soon be a thing of the past, “The Town of Bonnyville is moving towards the curbside pick-ups.” The Mayor says there is a truck and it’s ready to hit the roads, “we’ve got a truck that’ll be lifting these things (the bins) up and depositing your waste into the truck from the curbside.”

Mayor Sobolewski says the bins less strenuous on town staff, “we won’t need any employees to run around and dump garbage pails into those large garbage cans anymore.”

The new automated system is traceable, there are specific ID numbers on each bin to reduce theft. “These things will actually even have an ID,” explains Mayor Sobolewski, “so if there’s folks that want to borrow their neighbour’s receptacle, it will be recorded and we do have a computer and it will tell us who the bin belongs to.” The Mayor explains the consequences of using someone else’s bin, “our bylaw officer, with the yellow stripes, will pay you a visit.”

Mayor Sobolewski also notes that along with being cost efficient for rate payers, “the big things is, it’s going to save us.” The Mayor explains, “we’re going to be a) more efficient and b) it’s going to save us money in the long-run.” Mayor Sobolewski says saving money is what it’s all about, “that’s the whole goal,  we try to be more efficient for the residents and our rate payers.”
