New Cold Lake lodge set to open March 18th

The new Cold Lake Lodge is getting ready for move-in day. The building is almost complete after a three-year construction project. Chair for Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation Chris Vining says the opening of the building was due about a year ago but the build ran into some snags along the way.

“It was just one of those things. In big build projects, you usually run into different issues and such. Nothing we haven’t seen in Cold Lake with construction in the past. In this one, we kinda ran into everything.”

The new building features 61 rooms compared to the 48 in the current lodge on 12th Street. The rooms are also about 200 square feet larger in size. Vining says the 33 in the old lodge are currently moving their belongings over and staff have already been working hard to make the transition easy.

“It’s to give it that ‘home-y’ feel. It’s so we’re not moving into an empty canvas. When residents move in, it’s going to feel like home.”

The date for the move is set for March 18th. After the current residents are moved in, Vining says the lodge will start processing applications to fill the other roughly 30 apartments.

“We’re hoping to have the building full in the next few months. Hopefully by summertime.”

More information on the Lakeland Lodge Foundation is available on their official webpage.
