Man involved in rural shootout pleads guilty

A man who police say was involved in a shootout with a rural homeowner has pleaded guilty to the charges in a Bonnyville courtroom. Austin Crevier was in Court on Tuesday facing charges including breaking and entering and unlawful use of a firearm after a December 2016 incident inside the MD of Bonnyville. Mounties say Crevier and two other suspects broke into a rural property and tried to steal a truck.

The RCMP say the homeowner noticed the truck moving on security camera footage and went out to confront the suspects while armed with a gun. That’s when police say Crevier grabbed a .22 calibre rifle and shot at the homeowner. The homeowner returned fire. No one was injured during the exchange of bullets. Crevier and the other suspects were able to get away. He was eventually arrested in March of last year.

At press time, his sentence was not yet known.
