First pot store in Lakeland is up and running

The first legal recreational marijuana store open in the Lakeland is up and running. Canna Cold Lake opened its doors last week as the first store in the area officially licensed by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commision. Owner Nicholas Zimmer says the reception to his store has been fantastic,

“We opened on November 13th at 4:20 pm, unironically. We’ve had a great reception. We had a line-up that first day and a steady stream of customers ever since.”

Zimmer says the process he took to get his AGLC license took quite all while, calling it an “arduous process.” So far only 65 licensed marijuana retailers have gotten the ok from the government. As for the future, Zimmer says he wants his store to show off the new industry.

“Our hopes are just to normalize the industry. Try to pull it out of the seedy-underground it’s been buried under.”

A second store in Cold Lake has been approved to open. No stores have gotten AGLC approval in either Bonnyville or St. Paul as of yet.
