Spike Strip, teamwork ended Fishing Lake chase: RCMP

Elk Point mounties and Cold Lake Police Dog Services say a combined effort stopped a stolen truck in a chase through Fishing Lake and Frog Lake. Police are saying they spotted the stolen truck and attempted to pull it over but it took off. RCMP air services were called in and police say the chase lead through highways, fields and back roads.

A spike strip was used and mounties are saying the driver did attempt to ram a few police vehicles before coming to a stop in a driveway. The 42-year-old driver now faces charges that include assault on a police officer with a weapon among others. His 39-year-old passenger has also been charged.

“Our intelligence led policing allows us to target repeat offenders throughout various communities,” says Constable Guillaume Wilson, Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit. “We are able to focus on hotspots in hopes of taking the offenders who cause the most crimes off the street and stopping further offences from being committed.”

The truck had previously been reported stolen from Bonnyville.
