Cold Lake takes home hardware at Public Works gala

Work in The City of Cold Lake has been honoured with two awards. The Kinosoo Beach Enhancement Project was awarded “Project of the Year” by the Alberta Public Works Association in the $1 million to $5 million category.

Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland is thrilled the area is getting the recognition.

“The amount of planning, dedication, and hard work that has gone into Kinosoo Beach is outstanding. The crowd of people at the beach all summer shows how important this is to our community – it’s a focal point for major celebrations and a family gathering spot every day of the summer. It’s one of Canada’s best beaches and the word is getting out.”

Two phases of the Kinosoo Beach Master Plan have been completed and the city says it’s all been completed on time. The beach now features a new multi-purpose court, a new promenade, traffic calming measures on the roadway, a transformed and improved stormwater drainage, a splash park, grandstand, extensive landscaping and new trails and lighting.

The awards were presented to General Manager of Infrastructure Services Azam Khan and Transportation Services Manager George Urlacher at the American Public Works Association’s Alberta Chapter conference.
