One man charged after armed robbery near Vilna

A Kikino-area man is now in police custody after an armed robbery near Vilna. Police from Smoky Lake are saying they responded to a call around 11 am on September 27th. A homeowner said he had been robbed at gunpoint in his house. Mounties say the robber took off with the homeowners wallet and vehicle.

Police caught up to the suspect a short while later after he had gotten the vehicle stuck in mud. Mounties also say they found a loaded gun, ammunition and various knives.

A 24-year-old man now faces charges including robbery with a prohibited weapon among others. He’ll stay in police custody and see St. Paul court on October 18th.
