One dead after crash on Highway 36

One woman is dead and others are injured after a crash near Lac La Biche today. Mounties say they responded at about 11 am. They say a car headed southbound on Highway 36 near Highway 55 crossed over and hit three other vehicles, including a transport truck. The lone occupant of the southbound car, a 66-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she later died.

Another car involved in the accident had three passengers taken to hospital including one man flown to Edmonton by STARS. All three are said to have serious but not life-threatening injuries. The driver of a pickup truck and the transport truck were not hurt.

Mounties from Lac La Biche remain on scene with the RCMP Collision Analyst. They say charges are not being considered. Traffic was diverted for about four hours. It has since been restored to normal.
