Knife-wielding man caught quickly says Cold Lake RCMP

Two men are in custody after an attempted armed robbery at Lakeland liquor store. Mounties are saying on August 21st a man entered the Cold Lake Liquors store in north Cold Lake at around 4:10 pm. Surveillance cameras were rolling and caught a suspect wearing a mask waving a knife at patrons of the store.

Store owner Michele Carter was near the front counter and says the robber had one thing on his mind.

“As you see in the video, this guy comes in with this knife and he was demanding money. That’s all he wanted was money. And the girl who was on her way out, he hollered at her and demanded money as well.”

Carter says she yelled at the man to leave and started calling the police. The man then fled. No one was hurt during the entire ordeal.

Cold Lake RCMP Staff Sergeant Jeremie Landry says police were on the scene quickly and the suspect was caught right away.

“RCMP responded very quickly and immediately set up containment the area and located two suspects.”

A 25-year-old man from Cold Lake along with what police believe to be his 20 year old accomplice are now facing multiple charges that include robbery with an offensive weapon. The men will stay in police custody and see St. Paul Provincial court on August 23rd.

As for Carter, she admits that she and her staff are understandably shaken up after this incident.

“(After 19 years ownership) We’ve seen a grab and dash, other than that nothing that has even come close to a threat. That was crazy.”

Mounties say the two suspects were known to area police.
