On April 28th, Town Council passed their Operating and Capital Budgets for 2015, within the budgets is $4.1 million for road pavements.
Mayor of Bonnyville Gene Sobolewski explains the projects, “as everyone knows we are going to be ripping up 51st avenue and when you rip something up, you gotta put something back. That’s gonna cost us around two million dollars.” Mayor Sobolewski says the town was delighted with those numbers, “that bid came in lower than expected so we were happy with that.” Mayor Sobolewski says Bonnyville is able to do more paving projects thanks to the money saved on 51st avenue, “we are doing some more paving in town, 53rd avenue is going to get another overlay and Lakeshore Drive between Gurneyville Road and 53rd Avenue or maybe a little longer, depending on how long the money lasts.”
Mayor Sobolewski says there will be money spent on The Hammon Subdivision, however it is recoverable, “that money is coming back to us on a local improvement.” The Mayor continues to explain, “the developer in time is going to be repaying that one.”
Mayor Sobolewski says road maintenance is a large, but important expense, “unfortunately, it’s the country we live in, our roads are going to fall apart and we have to do our best to keep them in shape.”
